Brill Street is proud to present its annual ranking of the 50 most Gen-Y friendly companies in the Chicagoland area.

#46 Warady & Davis

When you know what you want out of a career, you can start training and scouting for jobs early. Gen Yers often begin their job search while still in school, and with companies like Warady & Davis, this kind of go-getter method is highly encouraged.

"It's very unusual for us to bring anyone on staff that doesn't come up from our internship program."

Leslie Flinn, Director of Marketing and Recruiting says, "It's very unusual for us to bring anyone on staff that doesn't come up through our internship program. We look for the right candidates when they're juniors in college." Flinn says the strategy, which was implemented a few years ago, is working. "It's really been a win-win for the students and our organization. There have only been two students to whom we have extended offers that haven't become permanent employees out of twenty some interns."

Gen Yers voices are heard, too, even though they come in green. "Interns are involved in the recruiting process," says Flinn. "We ask for their input and feedback on how to make things better."

"It's laid back here," says Staff Accountant Marco Gusella. "I like the flexible hours. You can come in or leave whenever as long as you put in your 7 1/2 hours. We went paperless a year ago and can pretty much work from anywhere."

Nichole Scott, an Administrative Assistant says that the best part about her job is that it changes all the time. "They've really been accommodating to what I want to do. After working here for a while I went back to school and they were very flexible," says Scott. "They've been there to give me additional responsibilities. The job is changing and evolving and that's definitely something that's kept me here for the past years."

Gusella agrees, and appreciates the training he gets consistently at Warady & Davis. "Being a mid-size firm, I can do other things, not only audits," he says. "They do a lot of training here and send us to a lot of seminars."

Human Resources Director Shari Hill says professional services like the company's Warady & Davis University program allows higher ups to sit down with every employee and talk to them about their training needs at the end of every semester.
