#37 Orbit Media Studios

>Orbit Media is a creative web design and development company, focused on interactive marketing services for their clients. This is their third year as a Top 50 Employer for Gen Y Emerging Talent, and nearly half their workforce is Gen Y.

It is very important that everyone understands the impact that they personally have.

Gen Y employees are attracted to Orbit because they are able to stay on top of the latest technology and trends, focus and perfect their skills, and are constantly challenged by their mentors. Leadership at Orbit encourages Gen Y employees to grow and take on more responsibility. Todd Gettelfinger, CEO, hopes to promote Gen Y employees into senior level positions in the near future, as they have already begun taking on complex projects with a diverse set of clients.

The work-life balance is not a myth at Orbit Media. All employees are kept informed with what is happening within the company at their “State of the Orbit” meetings. Todd also says that “It is very important that everyone understands the financials of the company, how it affects the company’s growth, as well as the impact that they personally have. Gen Y employees are great about it and love being informed.” Gen Y employees also get the chance to participate in conferences and after-work events.

Orbit Media is located in the Ravenswood Art Center, just north of downtown. Their unique space is inviting and relaxing, providing a productive work environment for their employees. A unique aspect of Orbit Media is not only their commitment to their clients, but to Chicago. They love Chicago, and do most of their work within the city. They believe that being able to work in Chicago and keeping their clients here adds to the family dynamic of the organization.

Orbit Media is deeply committed to aiding those less fortunate. Every year, they reach out to Chicago non-profit organizations to provide them with a chance to have a free website created by Orbit Media and other SEO and social media organizations. Overall, they provide about $45,000 worth of pro-bono work to Chicago nonprofits.

Orbit just became the 15th company in Illinois to become a Certified B Corporation. B Corporations are committed to being active participants in the community by voluntarily meeting higher standards of transparency, accountability, and performance. Orbit hopes to inspire others to become part of this historic movement.

Orbit Media is continuing to grow internally in size, as well as with the diversity of their projects. They have begun to take on larger scale clients and bigger technological challenges. The team is excited about the opportunities being presented to them and is looking forward to further success in the future.
